How to read a skincare ingredient list
Ingredient lists look confusing, but a few basics make them easier to use.
Order matters
Ingredients are listed from the highest amount to the lowest, so the first few make up most of the product.
Names you will see
Many ingredients appear under their scientific names. Water is usually listed as aqua, and shea butter as butyrospermum parkii butter.
Know your own triggers
If you are sensitive to fragrance or have allergies, check the list before you buy and always patch test.
